Mount Airy Main Street Farmers' Market: It's Asian Pears, Farm-Fresh Veggies, Baked Goods, Music & More Today, August 23rd!
Unlike regular pears Asian pears are sold ripe and maintain their crisp texture long after being pickedThese fruits are high in fiber, low in calories and contain a number of micronutrients that are important for blood, bone and cardiovascular health. Although delicious on their own, the light sweetness and crispy texture of Asian pears makes them a unique addition to any salad or stir fry.
MUSIC AT THE MARKET: Today at the Mount Airy Main Street Market, we'll be featuring the folksy tunes of local musicians Amy & Mitch, the Cyman Duo, 4-6PM. Listen to tunes by Amy & Mitch as they weave together their beautiful renditions of songs, such as Oh Mama, with such a lovely harmony.
TASTE OF THE MARKET: 3:30-5:00 PM - Taste a variety of fruits and veggies that are at the market at the Taste of the Market Table.
NUTRITION TOURS: 5:15 PM Learn about the nutritional benefits of "Eating the Rainbow" and how the locally grown and/or products found our market fit within the daily five food groups: Fruits, Vegetables, Grains, Proteins and Dairy.
AUGUST'S BOUNTIFUL SEASON: August is bountiful with fruits and vegetables, harvested at just the right ripeness for you to enjoy! Seasonal fruit, such as early apples and pears, blackberries, cantaloupes, honeydew, peaches, nectarines, plums and watermelon, may appear. Veggies, such as green beans, carrots, collards, CORN, onions, summer squash, cucumbers, kale, lettuces, onions, okra, peppers, potatoes and tomatoes at the market too!
