"There's lumberjacks and teamsters and sailors from the sea, There's farmin' boys from Texas and the hills of Tennessee,

There's miners from Kentucky, there's fishermen from Maine; Every worker in the country rides that Farmer-Labor train."

TODAY'S RECIPE & NUTRITION TIP!  Peach and Tomato Gazpacho with Cucumber Yogurt from Southern Living's Chilled Summer Soups to Make Now! This light refreshing soup captures summer in a bowl. To up the refreshment factor, chill your serving bowls for 30 minutes in the fridge before serving. While you're at the market, be sure to pick up all of the ingredients including peaches, tomatoes, onions, garlic and cucumbers this Wednesday to make this delicious summertime soup!

Did you know?  The tomato is actually a fruit.  In addition . . .
  • Because the tomato has seeds and grows from a flowering plant botanically it is classed as a fruit not a vegetable.
  • Tomatoes are rich in lycopene, an antioxidant that is good for the heart and effective against certain cancers. Cooked tomatoes are actually better for you than raw ones, as more beneficial chemicals are released. Tomatoes are also packed with vitamins A and C, calcium, potassium.

Did you know? The Peach originated from the region of Northwest China, but today it can be found in many parts of the world. In fact, there are over 2000 varieties of peaches in the world. There are two two main types of peaches - Yellow Peaches are tarter - high in acid, low in sugar and White Peaches are sweeter, low in acid and high in sugar.  Early varieties of peaches are known as Clingstone where the flesh clings to the stone (pit) and later varieties are Freestone.  Peaches are extremely nutritious! They are high in Vitamins A and C! Learn more by reading this article, 40 Interesting Peach Facts from SeriousFacts.com.

Be sure to visit all of our amazing farmers and producers as listed above, and cool your core with a Jessica's Snowball while you're at the Market this Wednesday! COVID 19 Updates: Our patrons may still place preorders for pick-up at the market during 2021.  While the statewide mandates set by Maryland Governor Larry Hogan to mitigate  COVID-19  have been relaxed and lifted as of July 1st, COVID-19 is still present and there may be variants. We are on the 45-day grace period. Therefore,  we request that everyone entering the market show respect for our community. Our patrons, vendors and farmers' market team appreciate it.

We encourage  social distancing, and hand washing/sanitation while on-site at the market. Our vendors who are serving samples and prepared food will still wear masks to protect the public; however, we leave the choice to you to mask up. Patience is appreciated as we navigate health and safety practices as we recover from uncertain times. As Spock would say, "Live Long and Prosper." That's what we want for you, so come Buy Local and Eat Fresh and Healthy, and spend time outside with us at the 2021 Mount Airy Main Street Farmers' Market!
