TODAY'S RECIPE & NUTRITION TIP!  Sunflower Spout (or Microgreens) & Tomato Salad from Salt & Pepper Skillet - This is a quick, easy and very healthy sunflower microgreens and tomato salad with a red wine vinaigrette straight from the farmer's market. These things are so fresh and healthy tasting!  While you're at the market, be sure to pick up your red and yellow tomatoes, onions this Wednesday!

Did you know? Microgreens are nutritious.  Microgreens are packed with nutrients. While their nutrient contents vary slightly, most varieties tend to be rich in potassium, iron, zinc, magnesium and copper.  Microgreens are also a great source of beneficial plant compounds like antioxidants. What’s more, their nutrient content is concentrated, which means that they often contain higher vitamin, mineral and antioxidant levels than the same quantity of mature greens. In fact, research comparing microgreens to more mature greens reports that nutrient levels in microgreens can be up to nine times higher than those found in mature greens. Research also shows that they contain a wider variety of polyphenols and other antioxidants than their mature counterparts. Learn more by reading this article, Microgreens: All You Ever Wanted to Know.

Be sure to visit all of our amazing farmers and producers as listed above, and cool your core with a Jessica's Snowball while you're at the Market this Wednesday! Who's in the strawberry patch with Sally, now that she's not picking them with me?
Oh no, I don't care what they're doing there, 'neath the shade of the old apple tree.

WHAT'S IN SEASON IN JUNE? We love June because it's truly the beginning of harvest season. In June, you may find locally grown Strawberries, Blueberries, Cherries, Raspberries & Apricots plus Asparagus, Beans, Broccoli, Cabbage, Cauliflower, Chard, Collards, Eggplant, Garlic, Herbs, Kale, Lettuces, Mushrooms, Onions, Peas, Radishes, Rhubarb, Potatoes, Spinach, Summer Squash, Turnips and Tomatoes. Early Corn may arrive in Late June in time for your 4th of July picnics! Many farms use high tunnels  or green house environments  in order to produce their crops early. We pride ourselves that our vendors are from within 50 miles of the market and they bring the best in Locally Grown and Produced farm-fresh foods to the market! Check out Maryland's Harvest Schedule by clicking here. Remember it all depends on Mother Nature as to when a particular fruit or vegetable is harvested.

MUSIC AT THE MARKET ~ 4-6PM: Three-4-All will be performing "Old-Time" tunes at the Market on Opening Day. The songs will be from the period from before time began ... no, not really, but before 1925 and within the public domain! They'll be playing a little Ragtime, Folk, American ballads, Blues and more! It'll be a treat to have music back at the market once more. Look for them to perform the first Wednesdays of the each month through September!

TODAY'S RECIPE & NUTRITION TIP! Ina Garden's Strawberry-Rhubarb Crisp courtesy of the Food Network!  Ina Garten’s strawberry rhubarb crisp is a dish best served warm (and with a dollop of ice cream or whipped cream). The crispy crumble topping gives way to a warm, gooey fruity filling.

What's that? Rhubarb, you say? Rhubarb is the fleshy, edible stalks of species and hybrids of Rheum in the family Polygonaceae, which are cooked and used for food. The whole plant – a herbaceous perennial growing from short, thick rhizomes – is also called rhubarb. Rhubarb is not especially rich in essential nutrients, and its calorie content is low. Learn more about the nutritional benefits of Rhubarb by visiting Healthline's article, Is Rhubarb Good for You? All You Need to Know.

Be sure to visit all of our amazing farmers and producers as listed above, and cool your core with a Jessica's Snowball while you're at the Market this Wednesday!

COVID 19 Updates: Our patrons may still place preorders for pick-up at the market during 2021.  While the statewide mandates set by Maryland Governor Larry Hogan to mitigate  COVID-19  have been relaxed and lifted, we request that everyone entering the market show respect for our community. Our patrons, vendors and farmers' market team appreciate it.

We encourage  social distancing, and hand washing/sanitation while on-site at the market. Our vendors who are serving samples and prepared food will still wear masks to protect the public; however, we leave the choice to you to mask up. Patience is appreciated as we navigate health and safety practices as we recover from uncertain times. As Spock would say, "Live Long and Prosper." That's what we want for you, so come Buy Local and Eat Fresh and Healthy, and spend time outside with us at the 2021 Mount Airy Main Street Farmers' Market!
