The Asian Pear ... such a golden crisp beauty! Pong's Orchard  ~ the premier Asian Pear (and Citrus) grower in Maryland ~ is bringing their Asian Pears today! Prized for their crunchy texture the creamy white flesh of the Asian pear is exceptionally juicy with a sweet low acid flavor and fragrant aroma.
Unlike regular pears Asian pears are sold ripe and maintain their crisp texture long after being pickedThese fruits are high in fiber, low in calories and contain a number of micronutrients that are important for blood, bone and cardiovascular health. Although delicious on their own, the light sweetness and crispy texture of Asian pears makes them a unique addition to any salad or stir fry.

We're also welcoming D&S Microgreens ... Microgreens are becoming very popular these days as we work to stay healthy! According to SFGate, "Their increasing popularity is due partly to their ability to pack a lot of flavor in a small amount, as well as their flexibility in being included in a dish. Mix them to create a small, flavorful and delicately textured salad, or use only one or two greens to give a plate a final touch. Microgreens, in addition to their strong flavors, are also lauded for their health benefits, which can vary depending on the type of microgreen." TODAY'S RECIPE & TIPS: FRIED GREEN (BREAKER) TOMATOES - Learn some tips and find how to really make fried green tomatoes using Breakers Tomatoes. TIP: Many in the rural communities know that a true green tomato is too firm for tender fried green tomatoes, so they use breakers, they are a little riper, therefore a little less firm. What's the difference between Green and Breaker Tomatoes?  GREEN: The tomato surface is completely green. The shade of green may vary from light to dark.
BREAKERS: There is a definite break of color from green to bruised fruit Tannish-yellow, pink or red or 10% or less of the tomato surface. Recipes, Tips and the Harvest Calendar can be found on our Recipes page.
