The falling leaves drift by the window, the autumn leaves of red and gold, I see your lips, the summer kisses, the
sun-burned hands I used to hold. . . . And soon I'll hear old winter's song, but I miss you most of all my darling,
when autumn leaves start to fall.  ~Autumn Leaves, Eva Cassidy

TODAY'S RECIPE & NUTRITION TIP!

Curried Coconut Butternut Squash Soup courtesy of Maryland Farmers Markets "Some call this #sweaterweather, we call it soup weather! This curried coconut butternut squash soup checks all the boxes. Creamy (yet creamless!), comforting, gently spiced, and easy to make, this vegan soup   will keep you warm and cozy as the temperatures drop."

"Butternut squash is a type of winter squash native to the Americas. Technically a fruit, it has long been utilized as a complete source of vegan protein by native populations when also paired with corn and beans. Together, the three are referred to as "The Three Sisters" and are a common sight in autumn.   Butternut squash makes a great addition to many sweet and savory dishes. It is a potent source of vitamin A and other nutrients. Even though it is a high-carbohydrate food, it has a low glycemic index, making it a smart addition to most healthy meal plans. ~ Butternut Squash Nutrition Facts and Health Benefits

Well, the sun's not so hot in the sky today, and you know I can see summertime slipping on away.
A few more geese are gone, a few more leaves turning red, but the grass is as soft as a feather in a featherbed
So I'll be king and you'll be queen, Our kingdom's gonna be this little patch of green.

TODAY'S RECIPE & NUTRITION TIP!
Sweet Potato Hash - With Fall's cooler weather upon us, brisk mornings and chilly nights, there’s a definite need for hearty, comfort meals that taste as though they took a very long time to cook (but didn’t!). This warming one-dish hash is made in a skillet and brings that comfort to the table from start to finish in under 45 minutes. It’s loaded with heady aromas that come from the smokiness of the link sausage to the sweet potatoes that are slightly caramelized with a roasted flavor. Find the ingredients for this Sweet Potato hash at the market this Wednesday!

"Sweet potatoes are sweet, starchy root vegetables that are grown worldwide. They come in a variety of sizes and colors — including orange, white, and purple — and are rich in vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and fiber.
Not to mention, they provide a number of health benefits and are easy to add to your diet." Here are 6 surprising health benefits of sweet potatoes from Healthline.com.

Be sure to visit all of our amazing farmers and producers as listed above, and cool your core with a Jessica's Snowball while you're at the Market this Wednesday!

"But, there's a full moon rising, let's go dancing in the light. We know where the music's playing,

A Little Lunar Knowledge... If you're able to see the full moon on Tuesday night  (actually Wednesday morning), it called the Corn Moon! It arrives at 1:22 a.m.! According to The Old Farmer's Almanac, "this full moon's name is attributed to Native Americans because it marked when corn was to be harvested." Learn about what it means to be part of Cub Scout Pack 1191

Pack 1191 will be on hand adjacent to the market. The pack supports boys and girls in the Mount Airy, MD area and is in the Francis Scott Key scouting district. Our district belongs to the National Capital Area Council, which includes the southern and central counties of Maryland and the northern counties of Virginia.
Cub Scouting is fun for the whole family.  In Scouting, boys and girls start with their best “right now selves” and grow into their very best future selves. It’s fun, hands-on learning and achievement that puts kids in the middle of the action and prepares them for today – and for life.

TODAY'S RECIPE & NUTRITION TIP!
Ratatouille by Tasty.com - Enjoy this  seasonal Colorful  Dish  featuring Tomatoes, Yellow Squash, Zucchini and Eggplant with a savory sauce made from  red, yellow & green bell peppers, tomatoes, garlic and onion.  As we're transitioning from Summer-to-Fall, try a Fall Ratatouille which features fall produce such as Orange Sweet Potatoes, Yellow Potatoes, Purple Sweet Potatoes, Delicata Squash and Gala Apples.

What is Ratatouille? It’s not just a popular Disney movie! Ratatouille is considered a healthy and very filling dish.  It is  a well-known vegetable stew hailing from Provence, a region in France famous for the bounty of its produce. It’s no surprise then that this stew is a celebration of hard-working farmers and the fruits of their labor. It’s common to find eggplant, tomatoes, onions, bell peppers, zucchini, garlic, and herbs all cooked slowly in olive oil in this hearty and comforting staple. The ingredients may vary from recipe to recipe, but these are the essentials.  Learn more about Ratatouille here.

Be sure to visit all of our amazing farmers and producers as listed above, and cool your core with a Jessica's Snowball while you're at the Market this Wednesday!

TODAY'S RECIPE & NUTRITION TIP!
Honey, Apple, Cheddar, and Bacon Panini from Half-Baked Harvest, courtesy of Country Living's 80+ Best Apple Recipes to Try, From Sweet to Savory "Trust us—you'll want to spread the homemade apple butter on both sides of this toasty sandwich," says Country Living about this sandwich.  Chef Tieghan notes, "This honey, apple, cheddar, and bacon Panini is high on my Monday “to-do” list." Whether you make it on Monday or any other day of the week, you're going to have a pretty "darn good" day, she says. Find your apples this Wednesday from Pong's Orchard, they'll have early Gala Apples. Find your Cheddar and Havarti Cheese plus Bacon from Whispering Breeze Farm. Ask Kim, The Dough Whisperer what bread she suggests to substitute for Sour Dough.

Choose My Plate App available - MyPlate is a reminder to find your healthy eating style and build it throughout your lifetime. Everything you eat and drink matters. The right mix can help you be healthier now and in the future. It focuses on portion sizes of vegetables and fruits being one half of your plate, the other half would include proteins and grains. And, off to the side, you'd have dairy (a glass of milk, yogurt or cheese).  Use the Start Simple with MyPlate mobile app to pick daily food goals, see real-time progress, and earn fun badges along the way.

Be sure to visit all of our amazing farmers and producers as listed above, and cool your core with a Jessica's Snowball while you're at the Market this Wednesday!
